Bishopsgate towers

Bishopsgate towers

With high demand and lack of supply for housing, retail, and office space in London, everyone has an opinion on what should be developed on the Bishopsgate Goodsyard. The current development plan is for 1,464 homes, 594,000 sq. ft. of office space and 215,000 sq. ft. of retail space. This influx to the property market is much needed in this time of extremely low vacancy across the board. However, many are protesting due to the height of this development and it not being with style of surrounding developments.

In the surrounding areas to London city, buildings are predominantly mid-rise which keep in line with the historic sites scatter throughout London. This development will place buildings the height of The Walkie Talkie and Tower 42 in Shoreditch, this will absolutely shadow over the neighbourhood and surrounding sites.

Eugene O’Sullivan, Director at Morgan Pryce commented “This area is in high demand for office space an influx of supply would be very beneficial to the businesses in the area. There is a limited space in London and the only way to cope is to redevelop areas.”

Regardless of the controversy around the development The Greater London Authority have come out in support for the development and with limited options when it comes to developing the site, many may have to get use to the idea of the tall towers.
