Bristol is well known for its ‘green’ initiatives and forward thinking when it comes to looking after the environment. The city has always put an emphasis on the importance of investment into transport and energy. By 2015, a budget of €500m was established for improving transport by 2015, and up to €300m was allocated to developing energy efficiency and renewable energy by 2020 (this includes a confirmed €100m ELENA investment in renewable energy).
Despite its growing economy, carbon emissions have consistently reduced in Bristol since 2005; subsequently, the city was awarded the European Green Capital award in 2015.
Since then, Bristol has continued to focus on improving its environmental impact, and developer Cubex has achieved the first BREEAM Outstanding rating for office buildings outside of London, and is one of just six offices to obtain the rating across the UK. The 95,000 sq ft building, Aurora, is located on Finzels Reach, and contains solar panels, water saving technology, a heat recovery system, electric car parking, bike racks, and intelligent lighting. In fact, the BREEAM assessors were involved in the design of the building, in order to ensure the highest quality results.
