Battersea on tour

In a somewhat unusual move for a property company, the Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) has decided to take its wares on the road.

The company will be touring the world in a ‘global launch’ with the intention of attracting prospective retailers and office tenants to London, who may not have considered a location in the UK’s capital, or who may need some persuasion.

The tour will start next month and extend into November, taking in a total of 11 cities, including London itself, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Milan, Tokyo, Doha, Los Angeles, Singapore and Beijing. The dedicated website is currently taking registrations of interest and further details are to be released before the tour commences.

The CEO of BPSDC Rob Tincknell has stated that they hope to attract in particular TMT and creative businesses to the commercial space, while in terms of residential space, there will be 539 homes available. The homes have been designed by California-based Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners – architects of the Gherkin. The homes on tour will comprise the third phase of the development scheme, with phases 1 and 2 already having been successfully launched.

The site itself is 42 acres with the commercial space consisting of 3.5 million square feet – of which office space accounts for 1.6 million square feet. The remaining space will be allocated to restaurants/bars, including a phased opening with the 2020 phase billed as London’s newest high street.

BPSDC hopes to combine the essence of Britishness with an international flavour by attracting a wide range of tenants to the iconic London building, while the project is driven by Malaysian investment businesses.
