Global Student Accommodation to bring micro-living student concept to the UK

Global Student Accommodation (GSA) has announced plans to bring its micro-living student accommodation model to the UK. The concept — which has been trialled extensively in Japan and Australia — delivers state-of-the art student accommodation in compact spaces. Thanks to their innovative ‘S-shape’ layout, the bedrooms are just 360 sq ft in size (considerably smaller than the 495 sq ft average for one-bed homes in the UK).

As part of the scheme, GSA intends to make the accommodation more flexible, offering ‘semester-based living’, where students only pay for their accommodation during term-time. This, along with the compact size of the spaces, should enable significantly cheaper rents than standard student flats in the capital.

Nicholas Porter, founder and executive chairman of GSA, says: “You will definitely be seeing the concept in the UK… We are bringing it to London in conversion properties as well as new-builds and we will bring it into Ireland as well.”

The first scheme is due to open in the UK in 2020.
