Fantastic ways to reward fantastic employees at Christmas

As the calendar year draws to a close, the Christmas period is the perfect time to spread some festive cheer and reward your employees for a job well done. Even if not every member of your workforce celebrates Christmas, some form of recognition and reward is a great way to make staff feel appreciated and also motivate them to maintain their performance and engagement as they enter a new year. End-of-year rewards have traditionally tended to take the form of cash bonuses, and although they are undoubtedly welcome, here are some other inventive ways to reward your employees for 12 months of hard work.

Extra holiday time

Nothing says ‘reward’ like a bonus day or half-day of holiday over the festive period.

Flexible working

Although it may not be practicable during the rest of the year, offering some flexible working opportunities over Christmas is a great way to keep morale and motivation up during the holiday period. While going one step further and offering a few working from home days that can be taken over the next 12 months is a very simple way to keep morale and motivation up the whole year round.

Festive treats

Christmas is traditionally a time to indulge, and keeping the office well-stocked with a selection of treats such as mince pies and chocolate is an easy, cost-effective way to spread some festive cheer.

No pressure

Finally, it’s also really important to remember that not everyone celebrates or likes Christmas. Whether it’s for religious, cultural or personal reasons, there will be members of your team who just don’t want to engage with the festivities — so don’t force them to. That said, make sure they also feel completely comfortable and welcome to enjoy all the treats and rewards you provide for your other employees — let them know that even if they don’t celebrate Christmas, they deserve just as much recognition as everyone else!
