Savills Investment Management has obtained planning permission for the redevelopment of a site on Drury Lane in Covent Garden. The new scheme, which has been designed by Barr Gazetas, will combine four buildings to provide 66,000 sq ft of grade-A office space on the upper floors and 23,000 sq ft of retail, gym and restaurant space on the ground and basement levels.
The development will retain the site’s industrial heritage by restoring and highlighting many original features, while the existing third, fourth and rooftop floors will be removed, and an upward extension made from CLT panels will create a five- and six-storey building with a rooftop plant enclosure and terraces.
In line with the Fund’s sustainability initiatives, the scheme is looking to achieve BREEAM Excellent, WELL Building and WiredScore certification.
Fund director at Savills IM, Lucy Winterburn, says: “The Grain House is a great success story for Savills IM, who have worked extensively with the council and local stakeholders to aid the planning process and ensure a sensitive, conservation-led approach was maintained throughout. This is such an exciting project to work on and the planning consent that has been secured is testament to a great Team effort and engagement in the decision to refurbish rather than redevelop the site.”
